Lessons from the lockdown #6

Image
Lessons from the lockdown Change – the only constant in life. We know that change happened, happens and will happen. Our response to change determines how the change affects us.  The lockdown has changed: • a lot of things around us • a lot of things about us • a lot of us • us  When change happens we have the option of: • resisting / fighting change • going along with change • ignoring change If we accept the change, we can: • make small incremental changes • make drastic transformational changes Change can be: • adversity • opportunity All the above options have their own consequences and it is unique to each person. We should therefore not judge the response of another on the basis of our own. Ultimately the question that remains with us – Is change a : • choice • reflex We need to remember that only when change is a choice we own the change and the consequences. To master change: ...

RED!!! - CBC BLOGTAG2

Image
This post is part of the Chennai Bloggers Club's CBC VIBGYOR BLOG TAG 2 where some of us will write a post on the colours of VIBGYOR each day starting 1st of May to the 7th of May, 2020. The colour theme for today's post is RED. Red is bold, bright, fiery and basic. Red is powerful even a big train stops before a small red light or a dupatta! Red is the name of an awful movie (subjective) Red is the colour of blood. Red oxide was used as floor tiling for many years before mosaic took over. Red is anger. Red is also blushing from passion & / love! Red apples are more common than their green cousins, so also with capsicums Red is fire. Red is end of the colour spectrum and that means the end of this blog series! All images are courtesy Google and belong to the respective owners. p.s. remember this ad?

GREEN! - CBC BLOG TAG 2

Image
This post is part of the Chennai Bloggers Club's CBC VIBGYOR BLOG TAG 2 where some of us will write a post on the colours of VIBGYOR each day starting 1st of May to the 7th of May, 2020. The colour theme for today's post is GREEN. To be quite honest green was not a colour that I liked in my younger days and then I grew up. In the millennium year one song happened in an epic movie that opened my eyes to this beautiful colour. The song begins with green and goes on to many more colours but the song is named green and shows how green signifies new beginnings. Green is the colour of nature and there is something soothing about it. Many childhood days have been spent looking at the passing fields and meadows from the train windows and as you grow and realize that these are the sources of our food the respect for the green fields grew in the mind. On the cricket field if we may bleed blue we are thrilled if the Men in Blue maintain their perfect record in ...

CBC Tablog 2 - Madras Week Celebrations - One aspect I want to change about Chennai nee Madras

Image
This post has been published as a part of 'The CBC Tablog - 2.' Read previous post by Lakshmi Venkatraman  here ... If you do not know about CBC, Chennai Bloggers Club is simply the Most Happening Blogging Community of namma Chennai. This tablog is a group blogging activity where each blogger posts on one topic and passes the tag to the next. So here goes... One aspect I want to change in Chennai? The list of changes can be long but I will stop with one phrase that should cover a few, “civic sense”. So what then is civic sense? It can be    A sense of taking pride in Chennai  and keeping it clean    A sense of awareness that spitting or defecating in public is a nuisance and can be extremely disrespectful to others    A sense of community living where sweeping ones garbage into the neighbour’s courtyard is avoided    A sense of ownership of the utilities provided for community good and protecting and preserving ...

Soups up...

Image
I enjoy    pepper filled crab soup when I have a cold, its efficacy to battle a common cold may be disputed but the effect it haves on me makes me overlook any naysayers. When we dine out usually people go for soups especially when it is leisure dining with or without some fried starters. This has become a dining custom usually throwing up interesting fractions like 1/2., 2/3, 3/5 etc. Sometimes I wonder if that is just an indicator of how much water to be added to it. Anyway soups and dining out seem to intricately linked to each other; the soups usually fall into the clear, thick and cloudy type. The cloudy ones are the ones that is usually corn flour and water, sometimes it may be difficult to go beyond the two. And before I forget there is the bright red tomato soup that sometimes reminds me of …well never mind. I have observed that once the soup lands on the ta...

Happily after...

Another post inspired by The CBC, actually one line in a post by Bragadeesh. Trainers use the term “paradigm shift” to explain a dramatic transformation, sometimes these transformations can be earth shattering for the individual concerned as the person will undergo a very big change, sometimes the biggest change in his / her life. Falling in love is a paradigm shift. People get transformed when love strikes them and this is the love that makes lights glow, bells ring etc. Love stories keep writers, poets, movie makers busy churning out new variations of the same concept inspiring many to fall in love. In hindsight it must be one of the most fundamental feelings, a boy and a girl fall for each other. There are many definitions for love and one of the famous lines from the Bible is probably the best description of love. For those who do not know it:   1 Corinthians 13:4-8 New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) 4  Love is patient; love is kind; love is no...

1 or 2? That is the question...

Image
This post is inspired by the CBC. To clarify this is an expansion of a comment I had posted to a query on why people look for arranged marriages. While the stream of comments moved the focus away from the initial question there were some strong opinions for both sides and even some who chose the third option of simply single. As mentioned earlier this post is to expand my point and so read on… (Disclaimer: What follows below are my hypotheses from observations and discussions. You are free to agree or disagree, to prove or to disprove as you please.) The rule of nature is that like poles repel and unlike poles attract for magnets. In life also it may be true. Marriage works well when it becomes a supplementary union rather than a complementary union. If I am not very clear let me explain, two vanilla ice cream lovers go to an ice cream shop, you would expect one or two vanilla ice creams to be consumed by them.   This is a complementary union according to me.   No...

Daddy enakku oru doubtu...

Image
You may have seen the popular segment on the comedy channel and there are so many doubts like that in many of our minds too. Here is one that has been there for some time. Any daddy can answer this one… I know of someone pointing out to the scar on her foot to her friend on the other end of a telephone conversation. I have seen another person pointing out ostensibly to the other person somewhere else again on the phone this time screaming words of abuse; the only problem was it was very confusing to those on the road who happened to find themselves at the end of the pointing finger. I have seen one person gesticulating wildly again while on the phone, the fact that this person was standing on the corner of a busy road in Chennai and was using the hands free earpiece ensured that only if you noticed carefully you could spot the wires.   From a distance it can be worth a few laughs.   I am amazed that people forget in a conversation over the phone the most that can b...
