Forgive them, they not not what they do..

Now that the IPL trophy has moved to Kolkota and last heard is in the hands of Didi, I thought I might skip this post, however considering the antics that followed the win I must write about the final. Actually CSK has done itself and the rest of us fans and non fans alike a great dis-service by losing the final. I thought only Navjot Sidhu and maybe Danny Morrison are permitted tomfoolery in the vicinity of a cricket match but now we have SRK. So captivated by the match was SRK that he forgot to dye his stubble and he forgot that there is some decorum expected of him each time. Makes you wonder why folks go and see his movies after this. And now maybe Didi will paint Kolkota purple to celebrate this momentous event. Damn you CSK.Why did you not do the little things right that could have left us savouring an expected win and celebrating it well just the usual way? Let me see a few things could have changed the match:   Over no. 20 of the CSK innings was a major anticlimax...

Ungal nanban (Your friend)

Watch the clip and pay attention to the part about the policemen being the friend and hold it there... I was shocked to see my car missing today evening after office and it looked like a clear case of a tow away. I had never fallen foul of the traffic police earlier but nevertheless asked the traffic cop nearby if he could help. Maybe he was tired or maybe he was bugged with the unruly traffic on Cenotaph Road he grudgingly suggested a number to be called. I was not prepared for the courteous and police response by a lady on the other end who patiently enquired and informed me that due to the visit of the CM today morning it was possible that my car was towed away. She gave me another number where the courtesies continued, the policeman politely enquired and then asked me to wait while he cross checked with the local police stations and informed me that my car was in Mambalam police station. He also informed the station of my arrival. I thanked the unknown policeman and went to t...

OK OK??

OK OK Coming from the maker who has conceived catchy titles for his movies starting from SMS aka Siva Manasula Sakthi you would expect more fun. But you end up getting more of the same thing.   The good about OK OK - The name inspired from a song from SMS lends itself to the catchy abbreviation and lends a feel good touch to the movie in the shortened form - The story or lack of it, does not consume your time searching for it, in an interview the maker said that he explained a one liner to the producer (who eventually becomes the hero) of the hero going to stop the wedding of the girl he loves in a jaanavasam car and that is it - Santhanam - Santhanam - Santhanam - Since Santhanam has been repeated I will break the monotony with Saranya - Santhanam if it is getting on your nerves, it cannot be helped as the movie is Santhanam plus an ensemble case and nothing more, nothing less.   The bad about OK OK - The hero, “pappu cant dance saala”, here pappu cannot act, ...

Opera Night by Shekinah Shawn

One of the biggest barriers to blogging was the firewall at office. I realized that I used to blog in office and my output dried up ever since the firewall came up and after I started using Twitter on my smart phone. Nevertheless I have decided to solve this handicap by composing the blog and emailing it for posting later. Two events recently warrant mention and pulled me out of my inertia. I will start with the recent event Opera Night. I was informed of a person from Chennai who has completed the FTCL qualification in singing, for the uninitiated (like I was very recently) it expands to the Fellowship of the Trinity College London and it is the summit for those who wish to get a qualification in western classical singing. I am aware of a few who have completed the lower levels in music mostly the piano but this I was assured was a first not just in the city but in the country also. More information on this singer came in the Metro Plus of the Hindu recently when She...

6 degrees of seperation

Image
Six degrees of separation refers to the idea that everyone is on average approximately six steps away, by way of introduction, from any other person on Earth, so that a chain of, "a friend of a friend" statements can be made, on average, to connect any two people in six steps or fewer. It was originally set out by Frigyes Karinthy and popularized by a play written by John Guare. - thank you wiki. This hypothesis is still a hypothesis but one look into the social networking sites and you can accept it as a fact with some degree of certainty  The picture below will highlight this point.(I hardly know the 1st level connection.) This should make the world a happier place. You can reconnect with lost people and renew lost acquaintances. But that is where the whole thing goes horribly wrong. The fact that people get lost is because they wanted to get lost or we wanted to loose them. Is there a third option? So are we really reconnecting? And is a frie...

It's so long since

Much water has flown under the bridge since my last blog post. I will not dwell too much on to the many events but this Christmas was special. First the wife and I produced and released our first ever Christmas CD titled "A Time to love". A CD that suffered so many set backs and was almost not happening came out on the 1st Sunday of Advent thanks to the grace of God who sent so many wonderful donors who gladly donated to the cost of making it. The CD also taught us that trust in God is better than trust in others as "friends" backed out of the project fearing failure. Sung entirely by the kids of the children's choir and two songs by adult groups, the CD has got favourable reviews from people who have heard it. All the proceeds of this album will be shortly given to charities. The CD also saw the formation of a small mixed voice group that we called "CREW 150:6" (to understand the numbers Google it), we were fortunate to sing in a mixed voice group aft...

Mankatha - the movie

Image
So watched the game as it is tagged, the movie had many big plusses going for it. This was the 50th movie of thala who's punch line loosely resembles the Duh of Big Moose. (If you don't know big moose google it please). So the plot involves heist of a lot of money and the inevitable fight between those who pulled off the heist and the ultimate winner with the usual Venkat Prabhu twist. There i wrote the script in about two lines, but to bring this to screen with an introduction song for thala and to give space for the huge ensemble cast (please refer wiki)and to patronize a loving brother and even more ever loving cousins, Venkat Prabhu gives a movie that would have been Hollywoodish at just 90 minutes but ends up as a normal movie with holes in the logic like the Chennai roads. In all fairness it is a one time watch and it can be a decent time pass if you are with friends simply because thala has had a blast making this movie and it is seen right through. From the dances, the ...
