Sarkar - One vote

Sarkar was watched in PVR Icon on the first day unexpectedly due to some free tickets that I got.

This movie came through the plagiarism controversy and i missed the credits so saw only AR Murugadoss claiming the story.

The movie is from the Shankar school of film making especially the first set like Gentleman, Mudhalvan etc and it is all about the ever utopian dream of one man who cleans up the mess that we live in, in dramatic instant noodles style.

There are no reveals but it is safe to say the hero will make a big change in only 15 days.

What did i like:
- The plot
- Few bits and pieces here and there
- Pappa (no reveal)
- The references to real life thrown liberally around and which keep you thinking and often smiling
- Yogi Babu, wish he were utilized more
- Its a decent no-brainer masala movie

What I hated:
- The opening is dumb, in an attempt to build up the character as a ruthless corporate raider, it assumes that the audience is dumb and will fall for a build up like that
- The opening song (actually most songs) but this one was gratingly annoying, it looked like ARM was indulging in a fetish of looking at skimpily dressed foreign women. Why was he shown as a playboy in the movie?
- Liberal interludes to show the imminent political entry of the star is an overkill when we are still waiting for another superstar after a few movies like this
- Unconnected additions and their explanations which tend to deviate from the key plot, the fire incident is one such. There was so much promise there but the explanation was like a cola without fuzz
- The over the top fight sequences though well made are still in the Superman or one man army mode, think we have outgrown them few years ago.
- Both Vijay and Keerthi look jaded in the movie, not sure what Keerthi was doing in the movie except from stopping Vijay being the playboy in a song after all the hard work in the first song
- the song choreography was disappointing, Vijay has always danced well, here it was uninspiring
- AR Rahman music is so unremarkable

Go if you are:

- A fan
- a liker Shankar type movies
- a fan of masala movieS
- A fan of utopian solutions
- someone who likes to learn something new about our democratic process (a good learning)
- someone with no other alternative
- someone with free tickets

This was a crude translation of a proverb that comedian Karunas (as pointed out by Chriz ) made famous in one movie. The Tamil original runs thus, “Kazhutha ketta, kutti suvaru” so you have the translation. I heard that line somewhere and I wondered especially having heard the translation as to what could have been the origin of the proverb. Any ideas? PS: I Googled it and did find something.

Silly Hindians, not knowing & not using are 2 different things. You don't know that many here know Hindi, you only know that we choose not to use Hindi, because it's our choice. Frankly it’s none of your business, what we wear or eat or speak. There is a lot of Hindi everywhere in Tamilnadu and often many are forced to use Hindi to communicate to the staff. If you observe closely there are many non native workers in Tamilnadu in the service industry. While many other states may have a welcoming attitude to people from other states who take up local jobs Tamilnadu has always welcomed them. Chennai or Madras has always been vaazha vaikkum Chennai, meaning it gives room for people to earn their bread in their chosen field. We still have Chinese dentists (the last few sadly) who don’t speak Mandarin here but Tamil to their patients in their clinics near Flower bazaar, Chennai. Battle of the movies - Annaathe Vs Jailer

  I watched Jailer yesterday and strangely my mind went back to Annaathe and I found that there are not too many dissimilarities in the two. For starters both are helmed by super star fan boys and who brought their adulation to the silver screen with varying levels of success. Secondly both movies can be clearly separated into two halves and both halves were significantly different. There are also few others I picked up so listing below my score card for the same.   1.       Title Both movies revolve around their titles and Annaathe was easier to understand, a local big man is called such and it is prevalent throughout the movie. In Jailer it comes to the fore only in a small and actually weak flash back. Annaathe – 1 Jailer – 0   2.      Family relationship bond Both movies were built on a family connect.
