Confused? Actually it’s an ad for the new avatar of Shopper’s Stop that I saw on a hoarding in Hyderabad. Now that the courts have banned hoardings in Chennai I amuse myself by checking out the craziest and the most absurd elsewhere. Coming back to the headlines they were above a girl appropriately flaunting her legs for a ride from a gawking motor biker.

The ad guys must think this to be great tongue in cheek advertising.

Googled the tagline and found this.. And guess what Saving the environment and yet being stylish is the underlying theme.

Hey! Maybe the ad guys are right. This is tongue in cheek advertising.

    The girl's wearing hot pants man!! Try that in Chennai! lol! But totally agree with you, my brother is in the same business and I have seen some real tongue-in-cheek ones from him!! One poster put up in a certain place for a basket ball tournament - Two basket balls, one net and the punchline -"Bounce those balls"!! lol!!

This was a crude translation of a proverb that comedian Karunas (as pointed out by Chriz ) made famous in one movie. The Tamil original runs thus, “Kazhutha ketta, kutti suvaru” so you have the translation. Silly Hindians, not knowing & not using are 2 different things. You don't know that many here know Hindi, you only know that we choose not to use Hindi, because it's our choice. Frankly it’s none of your business, what we wear or eat or speak. There is a lot of Hindi everywhere in Tamilnadu and often many are forced to use Hindi to communicate to the staff. If you observe closely there are many non native workers in Tamilnadu in the service industry. While many other states may have a welcoming attitude to people from other states who take up local jobs Tamilnadu has always welcomed them. Chennai or Madras has always been vaazha vaikkum Chennai, meaning it gives room for people to earn their bread in their chosen field. Battle of the movies - Annaathe Vs Jailer

  I watched Jailer yesterday and strangely my mind went back to Annaathe and I found that there are not too many dissimilarities in the two. For starters both are helmed by super star fan boys and who brought their adulation to the silver screen with varying levels of success. Secondly both movies can be clearly separated into two halves and both halves were significantly different. There are also few others I picked up so listing below my score card for the same.   1.       Title Both movies revolve around their titles and Annaathe was easier to understand, a local big man is called such and it is prevalent throughout the movie. In Jailer it comes to the fore only in a small and actually weak flash back. Annaathe – 1 Jailer – 0   2.      Family relationship bond Both movies were built on a family connect.
